RED BLOOD CORPUSCLES (RBC)
Erythrocyte is another name of RED BLOOD CORPUSCLES.
Erythrocyte came from Greek - erythros for "red" and kytos for "hollow vessel", with -cyte translated as "cell".
The RBC has a lifespan of 120 days but the dog's RBC has a lifespan of 124 days.
The number of RBCs is 45 lakh to 55 lakhs per mm cube.
Hemoglobin is present in RBCs.
The process of manufacturing RBC is called erythropoiesis.
RBCs form in the liver and spleen during the embryonic stage.
RBCs form in the red bone marrow in the adult stage.
The nucleus is absent in the RBC. But the nucleus is present in the Giraffe and Lama.
The structure of the RBC is bifurcated.
RBC is calculated via the Hemocytometer.
The main function of RBC is to transport oxygen and carbon dioxide.
The red color of RBC is due to hemoglobin because hemoglobin reacts with oxygen to form oxyhemoglobin, which causes blood to turn red.
But if the same hemoglobin reacts with carbon monoxide, it forms carboxyhemoglobin and the blood turns blue and humans die.
Hemoglobin contains iron (iron, ferrous, F ++).
The amount of hemoglobin in a normal woman is 12 to 14 percent.
And in normal male, the amount of hemoglobin is 14 to 16 percent.
RBC deficiency causes a disease called anemia.
The increase of RBC leads to a disease called polycythemia.
Note: - In polycythemia, the skin color becomes red.
Climbing in height increases the number of RBC.
RBCs produce antigens in the body.
The graveyard of the RBC is called the spleen.
The spleen is also known as blood bank.
The ration of RBC and WBC is 600: 1.
The smallest RBC oysters in mammals are those of the largest RBC elephants.
The largest RBC in the world is of amphibians and the animal has Amphiuma.
The cell membrane is composed of proteins and lipids.
The cytoplasm of a red blood cell is rich in hemoglobin.
Hemoglobin can bind oxygen and is responsible for the red color of the cells and the blood.
Each human RED BLOOD CORPUSCLE contains approximately 270 million hemoglobin molecules.
Half of the blood's volume (40% to 45%) is red blood cells.
RED BLOOD CORPUSCLES are deformable, flexible, are able to adhere to other cells, and are able to interface with immune cells.
